What is battery-buffered EV charging?
Battery-buffered charging places a stationary battery between the grid connection and the chargers so high-power charging sessions are served partly or wholly from stored energy instead of a large grid connection.
Why buffer a charging hub with batteries?
Buffering lets operators deliver 150-400 kW charging on a modest grid connection, avoiding or deferring transformer and utility upgrades that can take 12+ months and cost six figures.
How much battery capacity does a charging hub need?
It depends on charge-point power, session energy, arrival clustering and the grid import limit. Our Charging Hub Planner estimates buffer size in kWh from those inputs.
Does buffering reduce demand charges?
Yes. By capping the site's peak grid import, a battery buffer can cut demand charges, which are often a major share of a charging hub's electricity bill.
